Countermeasures for Tangent Sections / Transition Areas
⬱ Return to the Speed Management Toolbox Home Page
Speed management along tangent sections is used to slow vehicles either at a particular location or along a segment. Selection of a particular countermeasure depends on roadway characteristics and speed limit. Perceptual- and traffic control-based countermeasures are appropriate for most roadway types. Physical roadway changes are only appropriate for lower functional class roadways.
Most countermeasures are only appropriate on paved roadways with the exception of speed feedback signs and physical lane narrowing (resizing), which could be used on unpaved roads.
