Abstract

How can transportation agencies better measure the long-term impacts of their investments and use that information to improve decision-making? PIEs provide a structured way to assess whether projects meet their intended goals—yet, most agencies conduct evaluations only on an ad-hoc basis. Data limitations, inconsistent methodologies, and a lack of dedicated processes make it challenging to institutionalize post-implementation evaluations within asset management programs.

This interactive workshop, based on findings from NCHRP Project 08-170, will provide transportation professionals with a hands-on introduction to practical frameworks, tools, and data strategies for conducting PIEs. Designed for agencies at all levels of evaluation readiness, this session will guide participants through key steps for integrating PIEs into asset management decision-making while ensuring transparency and accountability in communicating results.
