Workshop Description

This workshop takes a comprehensive look at the skills and responsibilities needed to maximize people and resources in a successful workplace environment.

Good organization, planning, delegation, and management of people in your department is the key to bringing success, and to maximizing the potential of your employees. At the completion of this workshop participants will be able to

  • select and train new employees;
  • apply conflict management techniques;
  • identify workplace stresses;
  • manage problem employees; and
  • delegate and empower employees.

Who Should Attend

Those who are associated with the day-to-day activities of local transportation agencies. This would include those who work in or have other related activities with a county or city, such as

  • road maintenance supervisors;
  • engineers;
  • administrators;
  • technicians;
  • elected officials; and
  • consultants.

2009 Streets and Roads Conference

October 21–22, 2009

Conference Description

2009 has been an unpredictable year with the economic recession and its huge impact on state and local budgets. The recession has made every workplace take a second look at budgets, to find even more cost savings than they have in the past. Everyone is under the same pressure to provide the same high level of service on a smaller budget. This conference will focus on sharing resources, and other cost-saving strategies for those responsible for managing and maintaining Iowa's roads.

Who Should Attend

Secondary road maintenance supervisors and others who are responsible for

  • maintaining roadways and right-of-ways during winter and summer activities;
  • personnel and budget;
  • procurement of equipment and materials; and
  • managing administrative and office functions.

Iowa Streets & Roads Conference Vendor Displays

The Iowa Streets and Roads conference will provide vendors with the opportunity to showcase and demonstrate their products to road maintenance
supervisors and others who are responsible for maintaining roadways, procuring equipment and materials, and managing
administrative functions.

Registration

The vendor registration fee ($350) includes full participation in all conference events on October 21st–22nd, including lunch and break refreshments, for two vendor representatives. The deadline for registration is Tuesday, October 13th, 2009. Additional vendor representatives may participate at the regular conference registration rate of $95 per person.

Vendor Displays

  • Vendor displays will be located around the perimeter of the area where breaks and lunches will be served. Displays will only be in place on Wednesday, October 21st, the fi rst day of the conference.
  • Outside display areas for large equipment will be available in the parking lot outside the conference center.
  • Each display area will be 8x10 ft. and will include a skirted table and two chairs.
  • If electrical or internet connections are needed, please indicate this in the appropriate box on the registration form.

Vendor Setup

Early setup will be available starting at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20th, in the Praire Room, and will last until 10:00 p.m. Vendors can also setup Wednesday morning, October 21st before the conference begins. Vendors who have questions or need assistance during setup can reach Georgia Parham (cell) at 515-231-8381.
