Go! Magazine (http://www.go-explore-trans.org/) is a free, not-for-profit, online magazine that produces articles about the unique, interesting, crazy, awesome, and expanding world of transportation.

Each month, Go! produces a three-part article series with either an interview with a transportation expert, a book or movie review, a blog entry from one of our staff writers, or information about transportation careers. The best part? Our articles are interesting for readers of all ages.

For June, we produced a Go! Careers article series about three unique transportation careers: a traffic planner, forensics expert, and automotive stylist. We also interviewed Iowa State’s Katelyn Freeseman about how she “crossed over” into the field of bridge engineering.

Transportation & me: A traffic planner

Have you ever considered a job in the transportation industry? Well, if you haven't, maybe you should "plan" on it. A career as a transportation planner, specifically a "traffic" planner, requires expert problem solving skills to get the job done. Why? Well, that's their job. Traffic planners find solutions to both everyday traffic problems and problems that arise while planning for large-scale events like the Olympics or Super Bowl.

Transportation & me: A forensics expert

You might be surprised, but transportation can commit crimes too. Forensics isn't just for the movies, but "transportation" forensics is a bit different than what you may be used to seeing on television. Instead, this time, it's the job of engineers to figure out the cause of an accident, where transportation is the likely culprit. For example, a forensics expert may need to determine why a bridge collapsed or a train crashed.

Transportation & me: An automotive stylist

There are a lot of different and unique careers out there, but this one is for creatives with a love and appreciation for transforming transportation into a work of art. From creating three-dimensional images using the latest in computer technology to clay sculpting a life-size model, an automotive stylist is all about bringing concepts to life. Could you see yourself designing the vehicles of the future? With time, and a bit of creativity, anything is possible!

Dot’s Adventures with Transportation: The Career Quiz

In “Dot's Adventures with Transportation: The Career Quiz,” Dot imagines herself as a doctor, chef, scuba diver...engineer? Follow our heroine on one of her first adventures into the wide world of transportation.

Transportation & me: Interview with a bridge engineer

Meet Katelyn Freeseman, a bridge engineer conducting research for two bridge centers at Iowa State’s Institute for Transportation. Learn how she found herself in the engineering field and how her choice in specialty ultimately impacted her career and life goals.
