Eirini Kastrouni selected for IRF Road Scholar Program
Eirini Kastrouni, a second-year graduate student in civil, construction, and environmental engineering, has been selected to participate as an Executive Fellow in the January 2012 IRF Road Scholar Program in Washington, D.C. The 10-day program will overlap and be held in conjunction with the TRB annual meeting. This is the second year in a row that a student nominated by the Institute for Transportation has been selected to participate as an Executive Fellow in the competitive and prestigious IRF Road Scholar Program. Ms. Kastrouni, who anticipates graduating in May 2012, is an active member of the Transportation Student Association, serving as the vice president for 2011–2012. Her academic advisor is Nadia Gkritza, assistant professor of civil, construction, and environmental engineering and director of ISU’s Interdisciplinary Transportation Graduate Program. Building a bridge in two weeks
Bridge Engineering Center staff have been instrumental in planning, designing, testing, and documenting the fast-track construction of the bridge on IA 6 over Keg Creek in Pottowatamie County. The bridge was closed and actual construction of the three-span, steel/precast modular bridge began on Oct. 17; the new structure will be opened to traffic in 14 days or less. The Iowa DOT has a project website with a 3-D animation of the construction process, videos, photos, and project details. More. Douglas Gransberg honored
Douglas D. Gransberg, InTrans research engineer and Iowa State professor in civil, construction, and environmental engineering, has been named the 2011 recipient of the Distinguished Design-Build Leadership Award by the Design-Build Institute of America. This is the third year in a row that an InTrans faculty affiliate from Iowa State's CCEE Department has received this prestigious award: Dr. Jennifer Shane in 2010 and Dr. Kelly Strong in 2009. Recipients for the award are chosen based on various criteria that are specific to each of the five categories: owner, industry professional, legislator, full-time faculty, and student. Gransberg was selected for his lifetime contributions as a full-time faculty member. More. Albrecht cited in international periodical
InTrans's Chris Albrecht, transportation research specialist, is quoted in an article in the Oct-Nov 2011 issue of Traffic Technology International covering integrated weather-related technologies that support and enhance the efficiency of pavement maintenance activities and more.
